EMC measurements

Monitor a PSI5 sensor’s communication and readings during EMC testing. The PSI5-Simulyzer records data outside the test chamber for analysis of transmission errors and implausible signals.

Challenge and solution

EMC measurements in practice

01

Test environment

The EMC laboratory generates interference across the relevant frequency range. The sensor in the test chamber is subjected to conducted or radiated interference.

02

Optical transmission path

A PSI5-to-optical converter is placed beside the device under test. Outside the chamber, a second converter restores the electrical PSI5 signal. optoPSI5 from mk-messtechnik is one example.

03

Analysis on the PC

The PSI5-Simulyzer operates in ECU mode and connects to the PC by USB. The software checks transmission errors and signal plausibility, and stores communication for later analysis.

Coordinated laboratory testing

Connect measurement and test control

  1. Apply interference

An RF generator and amplifier create the interference required for the test. The chamber and optical transmission path are part of the laboratory setup.

  2. Signal errors

The PSI5-Simulyzer’s digital output signals a detected error to the RF generator control program.

  3. Resume testing

The digital input can clear stored errors and restart communication. Recorded data is available for subsequent analysis.

The EMC interference source and optical path are required for the particular test setup. The PSI5 setup described here is an application example.

Software and integration

Integrate into your application

01

Application software
